How Big Are the Books?
A common complaint among purchasers of “How to...” eBooks is that the description didn’t really give them a clear idea of how big the books were and they are invariably disappointed.
This book is around 4000 words (plus many music exercises) or roughly 70 pages when formatted in Word. Obviously page sizes vary on Kindle.

Free Audio Downloads? How does that work?
As I write this you are currently unable to download anything other than text based files via 3G onto your Kindle. So if you’d like to take advantage of the free audio downloads visit stringsseriesmusic.co.uk on a PC or Mac and you are then free to store them on your Kindle, iPod or other music player!

Who are you?
I am a musician and teacher. Much of my music book writing knowledge was gained when I wrote a syllabus for my Professional Musicianship degree. I learned even more about teaching during my two years as a fulltime music theory, guitar, bass and drum teacher. I no longer teach fulltime as I’m working more as a musician but I continue to learn from the awesome musicians I meet!

Learn to Play Guitar (Interactive Reader)

The Learn to Play Guitar kit is designed to teach you how to play guitar interactively, without being tied to a computer or CD player. The kit consists of an Interactive Reader (it looks like an oversized pen) and two books optimized for audio that is activated when the Interactive Reader is touched to the book pages. Consider this your own private guitar instructor.

The Interactive Reader is an optic pen that recognizes text and images, including musical notation, and provides audio to the user based on what it reads. Use the Interactive Reader with the Learn to Play Guitar books to learn and listen to the following:

  • Chord voicing
  • Arpeggios
  • Strumming and finger-picking patterns
  • Chord progressions

The Learn to Play Guitar kit comes with two books, Playing Basics and the Chord Encyclopedia. Playing Basics provides comprehensive lessons for beginners. Throughout the book, chord diagrams allow you to hear notes for every string. As chords are introduced, each is shown on its own fret board. By touching the Interactive Reader to the page, you can hear how the note should sound. The Chord Encyclopedia explains basic notations and how to use a chord encyclopedia. It then provides information on 480 audio-enabled chords.

Playing Basics and the Chord Encyclopedia are small enough to slip into a gig bag. The spiral-bound design of the books is ideal for resting on a music stand or table. The battery-powered Interactive Reader can be used with headphones, includes volume control, and has an automatic shut-off feature to conserve battery life.

Mel Bay Learn To Play Fingerstyle Solos for Ukulele

While the ‘ukulele is enjoying a well-deserved renaissance on the mainland, in the land of it's birth, it has never gone out of style. Hawaiian's took to the "jumping flea" right from the start, creating music of stunning beauty and versatility. Now intermediate players can learn to play lovely finger style solo arrangements of classic Hawaiian songs, folk songs, standards–even a few pieces from the classical guitar repertoire. The book offers 27 arrangements from around the world written in standard notation and tablature playable on any ‘ukulele. Songs are grouped according to level of difficulty, starting with simple arrangements well within the grasp of dedicated beginners and intermediate players and leading through more challenging songs featuring unusual chord voicings, inversions up the neck, tricky fingerings and "all the fun stuff" the author could muster. To aid the student, the companion CD includes all of the songs taught. Includes chord charts, inversion studies, introductory material on finger-picking and making the transition from strumming to melodic playing.
